Municipal Directory for Sustainability Innovations

Posted October 23, 2024

In support of the county's Climate Action Plan (adopted in 2021), the Chester County Planning Commission (CCPC) brings together a Local Government Climate Action Team for municipal leaders who are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the environment.

Since many municipalities aspire to tackle the same issues, CCPC recently released a Municipal Directory for Sustainability Innovations featuring practices and programs identified by the Team as topics they would like to learn more about.

Topics in the Directory include planning and zoning, as a goal for transitioning to clean energy; advisory bodies, such as an active advisory council, team, or committee; certifications, like SolSmart's gold, bronze, and silver levels; programs and initiatives, including building energy benchmarking/management; and case studies, as in Caln Township's reforestation/lawn conversion project, or East Pikeland Township's Energy Transition Plan.

While the Directory provides a tool for municipalities who wish to learn from each other, it does not include all of the actions municipalities can take to advance environmental sustainability.
