Chester County continues to hold its place as number two in the state for the number of agricultural products sold. This is great news as the county continues to thrive in one of its top industries!
According to the 2022 Census of Agriculture (the latest data), an estimated $5,132 of agricultural products are sold per acre in Chester County, while the PA average is $1,457 per acre.
In terms of crop rankings across the state for counties, Chester County comes in first for crop production and crops grown under cover (mushrooms), and second for horses, ponies, mules, burros, and donkeys. Other rankings in the list include Christmas trees (8th), vegetables (9th), milk from cows (11th), fruits, tree nuts, and berries (14th), and poultry and eggs (17th).
Nationally, the county still remains third in crops grown under cover, 26th in horses, ponies, mules, burros, and donkeys, 32nd in crop production, and 51st in Christmas trees.
This information was recently shared in the county's 2022 Census of Agriculture fact sheet — which was presented by CCPC's Economic Planner, Libby Horwitz.
