CCPC Board Tours Phoenixville
Posted June 21, 2023
To provide a unique opportunity for both the Chester County Planning Commission Board and the public, CCPC's June Board Meeting was held at The Colonial Theatre in the Borough of Phoenixville on Tuesday, June 13! Typically, meetings are held at the Government Services Center on the second Wednesday of each month.
For this special meeting, Board Members and guests enjoyed a walking and bus tour of the borough led by Phoenixville's Borough Manager, Jean Krack, ending at The Colonial Theatre for a shortened meeting which was held both in-person and virtually from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
The walking tour began at the Theatre (277 Bridge Street) at 1:30 p.m., leading the group around the block to check out the borough's Electric Vehicle charging stations and farmer's market location, as well as the Foundry Building and the Schuylkill River Trail Bridge over French Creek. Looping down Main Street and back to Bridge Street, the group walked past some new and mixed-use apartment buildings, the Phoenixville mural, various road improvements, the Schuylkill River Trail connector, and the location of the borough's future train station.
After the walking tour, the group embarked on a bus tour which covered a wider section of the Borough. Highlights included Franklin Commons; the Phoenixville Community Center; Reservoir Park improvements; Fillmore Street; New municipal parking; Steelpointe; the relocated Schuylkill River Trail; the new bridge over French Creek; a new firehouse; sites for new development; the Luxor Apartments; Steeltown Village; the Byrne Building (adaptive reuse); affordable housing on the borough's public works property; the Walnut Mill Lofts; the Library and Reeves Park; and the location of a new bus shelter; before returning back to the Theatre.
"Today's tour was a really great way for the Board to see and learn about all that's been going on in Phoenixville over recent years — from a vision to a reality," noted CCPC Board Chair, Michael Heaberg. "We thank everyone for their involvement in putting this opportunity together."
