2022 POST Shows Open Space Preservation Efforts Remain Strong in ChesCo
Posted April 24, 2023
Chester County celebrated a milestone achievement of 30% protected open space back in 2021; but the efforts didn't stop there! With one third of the county's land still up for grabs, efforts to preserve the county's land have remained strong since then.
The county's Protected Open Space Tracking system, or POST, indicated that by the end of 2022, 30.7% of the county's land had been preserved (.05 more than the previous year). While these amounts of newly preserved land might not be quite as large as in the past, they're still just, if not more, significant.
Additionally, agricultural conservation easements covered 584 acres, land trusts eased 577 acres (but no land preserved in-fee), and HOA open space protected over 570 acres in 2022.
The Chester County Planning Commission has collected information on the amount of open space protected in Chester County each year since 2000.
